Why do we have to listen to our hearts?

Paulo Coelho asks in his novel The Alchemist:

Why do we have to listen to our hearts?

The whole book is 'a fable about following your dream,' a search for treasure, so following your heart is key.

Of course these ideas are meant to be open ended - what is your heart telling you?

You need to start with an honest reflection on what you truly want, and why.
